Content is ok, price is out of control

The content of this book is okay, but the cost is unreasonable for a thin paperback. Due to the cost, I plan on turning it back in for credit but due to the construction, it doesn't hold up well at all. It should be more like $45.

One of the best books on all things instructional design that I have read

This book is an overview of the field of IDT. It is a must have for the bookshelf of every instructional designer and one of my all time favorite IDT books. If you are looking for a how to manual or guide this is not it, but if you are an instructional designer and want to understand your field better, you will enjoy this book. I have a large assortment of IDT books, but I know that this one will be one of the best research references that I have.

Introduction to Radio Frequency Design

What can you say about Wes Hayward that hasn't been said already? This book should be required reading for RF/Microwave designers. It covers all the basic and fundamental subjects of RF design with insight and clarity. I particularly liked the chapter on filter theory and design, crystal filters especially. The coverage of resonant circuits in general is very good. This is a staple in my brief case and rarely spends much time on the shelf. I recommend it highly to anyone in need of a good RF design reference text.

Terrible Title

I bought "Introduction to Radio Frequency Design" because thats exactly what I was looking for. I'm your average electronics hobbyist looking for an introduction to things like oscillators, frequency synthesis, RF filters, modulation techniques and other basics that relate to designing RF circuits. What I got was a book that focuses heavily (almost exclusively) on modeling RF circuits mathematically which makes the book almost useless for me and others looking for such "introductory" material. This book assumes that you've have all the mathematical and physics training that comes with something like an electrical engineering degree, so if that describes you and your interested in maximizing your RF circuits, then this may be the book for you. But if your interested in actual introductory material to basic RF design I'd suggest you find something else.

Superb introduction to key concepts of RF circuit design.

This classic book provides a well presented introduction to RF circuit design, focused on giving the reader a thorough grounding in the basic concepts needed to become a professional RF circuit designer. There is sufficient mathematical rigor to convince the pros, but not so much as to make the book inaccessable to students and more advanced amateurs. The author is an experienced state of the art RF designer and a life long "RF guy"--I've been reading his articles in QST magazine for 25 years. This experience and his devotion to the field come through strongly in his book. Though first published in the early 1980's, most of the material is basically timeless. I do hope Wes will someday revise it to include newer RF IC design as well. The book deserves to be in the library of every professional, and especially those just starting in the field.

About the Author
John Yudkin (1910-1995) was a British physiologist and nutritionist. He became internationally famous with his book Pure, White, and Deadly, first published in 1972, and was one of the first scientists to claim that sugar was a major cause of obesity and heart disease.

A Must Read For Today's Society

An absolute must read, predicting what we are now seeing 40 years later. Yudkin's research on sugar and Mary G. Enig's research on fats have turned common nutrition wisdom upside down. I have done the traditional low fat, high carb method of eating and had horrible triglyceride and cholesterol levels. Switched to more saturated fats and fewer sugars, and my levels went way down, contrary to what my physician thought would happen. I see this in my daily life at the office: co-workers eating all the refined sugary treats and constantly complaining that they are fat or sick, or both. I refrain most of the time, and am not fat, nor do I get sick (unless my son sneezes on me). Change your eating style, don't believe the B.S. media and the government says will make you healthy, and you'll see the difference.

A Must Read

I ordered this book after reading an online NY Times Magazine article entitled "Is Sugar Toxic", and I plan to order several more copies to give to the people I love. This book traces the history of sugar, how sugar is refined, and the many effects it has on body chemistry. Because of my family medical history, of particular interest to me is the connection between sugar and coronary disease, since most of us are still under the old assumption that saturated fat is what we need to worry about. This book disputed that notion forty years ago, and is finally being accepted as mainstream science today, but old science dies hard.

Surprisingly timely!

Surprisingly timely information, despite its last update in the 1980's. Out of print for years. As a physician-scientist, I am glad to see his work stand the test of time. Hopefully will inspire/provoke further action - certainly has for me! The later chapters on his travails defending himself/his work against ignorant industry attacks prove that, sadly, nothing has changed in the ensuing years.

The system for publishing academic books is broken...

...when a 144 page treatise is priced this high. Who on earth is served by this system? Certainly not the author, who can expect a handful of copies to be sold to a few research libraries, Certainly not actual readers or students of pop culture, especially if they don't happen to be within borrowing distance of one of those august institutions. At best this is a notional book. It will be accessible to so few people that it might as well not exist at all.

About the Author
Diane Larsen-Freeman is Professor Emerita of Education, Professor Emerita of Linguistics, and Former Director of the English Language Institute at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. She is also a Distinguished Senior Faculty Fellow at the School for International Training in Brattleboro, Vermont. Dr. Larsen-Freeman has been a conference speaker in over 60 countries of the world and has published over 100 articles in her areas of interest. Her Heinle/Cengage titles include "The Grammar Book: Form, Meaning, and Use for English Language Teachers" (third edition, 2015, co-authored with Marianne Celce-Murcia), "From Grammar to Grammaring" (2003, authored), and the fourth edition of "Grammar Dimensions: Form, Meaning, and Use" (2007, Series Director). From 1980-1985, Dr. Larsen-Freeman was Editor of the journal "Language Learning." In 1997, Dr. Larsen-Freeman was inducted into the Vermont Academy of Arts and Sciences. In 1999, she was selected by ESL Magazine as one of "the ESL pioneers." In 2000, she received the lifetime achievement award from Heinle & Heinle.

Such a great series, and Meet Baby Morgan is no exception. I loved the addition of new characters in this book, from the neighbors to the pack of Pomeranians named after *nsync. A great, light-hearted, and funny read.

Very heartwarming story that shows the bravery of a dying mother/wife to her husband and how she wants him to carry on after her death. She leaves him a list of things she wants him to show and teach their children. Parts of it are very sad and other parts are amusing and heartwarming. Makes you appreciate your life and family.

A Great Book!

This was a heartfelt book that truly brought out the love of a mom for her family. The book was well written, and you truly feel the time ticking away as the list was developed. The book itself was a fast read, and I found that emotionally I was touched and as I was reading I completely empathized with the father, as I cannot even imagine losing my wife and how we would help our own children with the loss of their mother. This is a book that will touch your heart, so be ready! It is a great book for any family!

Personal story but not what I hoped for

I won this book on a First Reads giveaway. I liked the concept for the book and because its a true story it made it that much better. Being a mom myself I can't imagine leaving my child when they are so young. This couple really had quite the love story and in their 22yrs of being together they had done so much and had gone to so many places. It was quite astonishing actually. But you know how you read those family member newsletters that get sent out around the holidays? Some people call them Brag newsletters. After awhile it got tiring reading about the big action packed trips, all the places they had traveled. It seemed to be a bit much at times. They did so much that some people never do in their lifetimes. But I did like the concept about a list for your child and it can be something you write together as parents. He even said himself that he never expected the list would be needed and thought she would beat the cancer. So I did admire that the author did invite us into so many personal memories.

Great reference book for any repair

I bought this manual because I ran up a curb like an imbecile and put a nice size hole in my oil pan. The manual has great diagrams and was invaluable in replacing the oil pan. I am not a grease monkey by any means but with this manual by my side I was able to complete the repair without incident.

It would be useful for any repair seeing as it has thorough diagrams of nearly every part of the car. Do not buy this manual thinking you will be able to fix a blown head gasket or some other major mechanical malfunction using it as a reference book without any mechanical training. It is a service manual not an auto mechanic certification.

Overall a great piece of literature.

Ever older Passat Needs this.

2002 gls wagon, bought used and had so many gremlins that I finally broke down and picked up the Bentley. Everyone on the forums reccomends these and after receiving them I fould out why. So much information that they are like an encyclopedia for the car. Was helpful in troubleshooting an ignition problem, motor mount,. snub mount, axles and brake system problem. Yes.....all they typical VW passat issues. WOuld reccomend if you plan on keeping the car for a while. Have a high re-sale value so you can always sell them if your car ever dies :)

Good book! Very pricey.

There is a lot of good information in these books. Detailed photographs and exploded diagrams help with most replacement and repairs. It seems like in other manuals there is a lawyer disclaimer on every other page saying they do not take responsibility for breaking the car further or hurting you in the process. I get it. I am working on my own vehicle. It is great to turn the page, see the photograph matches what I am looking at. It shows manufacturer's part numbers and the proper name and the steps for removal and installation.

My only complaints have to do with the books themselves. They are expensive hard cover books. For the money, I don't want to get them dirty with oily hands or accidently rip the pages. They should be laminated to survive in the garage. They could also use colored tabs to find sections faster.
