I suspected as much, but now I know.

I'm so glad I had read this book when my doc ordered this med (Tambocor) for me. As a matter of fact, as far as I can tell, every FDA approved drug out there deserves the same skepticism and hesitation on my part. I did take 3 doses of the med and had a horrid reaction at home alone. At least I knew how bad the reaction could be and that there was no antidote. I quit the med and prayed to survive the reaction.

This is an important book

In 1989, tens of thousands of people died from a medical mistake, and yet few Americans know the story. This book presents the well-researched facts, which knowledgable people don't dispute. Still, the story just doesn't move anyone. There is no blood. The deaths were usually sudden, with no chance for lingering sympathy. And there is no single villian. Our traditional society is not able to handle this type of tragedy. Since 1989, the story has repeated itself with other medicines and out society still does not know how to respond.

More people need to read this book.

The Prada Plan 2 Leah's Story is Ashley Antoinette's delicious sequel to her debut novel the Prada Plan'.Part 2 opens with street-fiction's most infamous villaness Leah Richardson as she offers up a prologue that speaks to you the reader.
It starts off with a bang as Leah is about to exact the ultimate revenge on Indie & Disaya by burying their baby Skylar alive,and shoots off from there showing you the dark circumstances that led her down the road to insanity.After Skylar's disapperance and the pressures of both the kidnapping and Indie's affiliations in the streets. Leah & Indie's family begins to crumble and when betrayal strikes home and both the law & the outlaws get involved no-one is going to escape unscathed.I liked how Disaya is forced to make up an entirely new Prada Plan to come out on top & correct the chain of events that she has set in motion, it really shows her indomitable spirit & dedication to the hustle.A character is re-introduced as( AA ties the Prada Plan in with another of her books Supreme _Clientele)in a way that I could only describe as genius.In the end of the book Leah reaps the reward of her bad karma and as always their are no clear -cut or fairytale endingds.The Prada Plan 2 does not disappoint,and I highly recommend you read this book I loved how it takes you back into Leah's past & forward into Disaya's uncertain future,without leaving you confused and the action is realistic the characters three dimensional & the writing top notch.
Ashley's wordplay touches your every emotion & you really are immersed into her world of deception,drugs,sex,revenge.5 Star Read Mrs Coleman as I said before a New Street Classic.

It was OKAY but....

I like many of you was highly anticipating reading this sequel, and it was a good read however I felt like the author missed the mark on a few things. One thing in particular would have to be the ending, I think that she was so focused on creating a twist that she forgot some of the character details. I also felt like YaYa was not as strong as she should have been, based on how she was described in book one I was definitely shocked at her naivete. Also, I hope the author do not take forever to make a part 3 which I suspect is coming, if not then it makes the ending stupid.

Okay, let me first start by saying I haven't written a review in a while but I just had to voice my thoughts on this one. Like some of the other reviews this sequel was not what I expected. YaYa was so lame and naive in this book which was a huge contridiction to her character in part one. Many of the events in this one were a bit "far-fetched" and just down right "unbelievable." Indie's murder rampage, killing numerous indivuals who had absolutely nothing to do with baby Skylar's kidnapping pissed me off from jump. For Indie the be the "King" the "HNIC" in Houston his actions were downright stupid, not at all thought out and extremely unproductive. I was amazed at the fact that he nor YaYa ever stopped to take the time to have a conversation about "who" would've taken Skylar and "why?" Why would you just start killing people without a clue as to why someone would want to take her. The kidnapping of a child is an extremely "emotional" act thus pointing to a woman. How often do you hear about a man kidnapping a child without rhyme or reason. If Minnie had ordered Skylar to be taken he would have made it known what he wanted from Indie in return for the baby (a trade off so he could avenge the death of one of his soldiers). It's an unspoken rule of the "GAME" that hustlers do not bring harm to children or another hustler's family unless it was an act of deep, personal revenge. YaYa was portrayed as weak and really rather stupid at times but there were two things that stuck with me; First was her escape from the hospital where she goes to Khi-P for help. At this point in the book she's lost everything. She has no home, no car, nothing to call her own and instead of calling Elaine or going to Chase she turns to Khi-P; Goes on a hundred thousand dollar shopping spree and still manages not to gain any financial security for herself thus leaving her dependant on Khi, a man she really doesn't know and shouldn't trust. Second was her showdown with Leah. Months of planning, weeks of stalking and organizing to the point of obsession and she shows up for "WAR" wearing $1000 red stiletto heels (WTF)and why was it necessary to put the price of the shoes in the story? She still got her ass beat in those $1000 shoes. When she finally has Leah just where she wants her she starts BS'ing around and lets Leah gain control of the situation. At this point I was so through with this book but kept reading because I just knew we'd get some kind of reasonable conclusion, NOPE! Another unnessary, unrealistic cliffhanger. I am really starting to tire with stories that require 3, 4 & 5 sequels to conclude. This one definately should have ended with 2. Not sure if I'll be investing my time or money into part 3.

Wendy J. Schiff MS, RDN received her BS in biological health/medical dietetics and MS in human nutrition from The Pennsylvania State University. She has taught introductory foods and nutrition courses at the University of Missouri– Columbia as well as nutrition, human biology, and personal health courses at St. Louis Community College–Meramec. She has worked as a public health nutritionist at the Allegheny County Health Department (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania) and State Food and Nutrition Specialist for Missouri Extension at Lincoln University in Jefferson City, Missouri. In addition to authoring Nutrition for Healthy Living and Nutrition Essentials: A Personal Approach, Wendy has coauthored a college-level personal health textbook and authored many other nutrition-related educational materials. I absolutely love this book. I used it for my nutrition class in college, but it is simply a lovely book! I recommend it to anyone interested in nutrition, whether you are taking a class, raising a family or just interested in bettering your lifestyle. I found the pages beautifully laid out and the information worthwhile and informative.

Textbook looks great but do know when you order from this company ...

Textbook looks great but do know when you order from this company they do NOT provide a tracking number. When you choose regular shipping for your product(s), which is between I believe 4-14 days, it's going to take the longer period to get to you. My book took me 11 days to get to me, 3 weeks after I had started school. I had contacted the seller twice and both times they got back to me quickly, however did not follow up in finding the tracking of my textbook like they said they would which was a little frustrating.

One of the Finest in its Genre

This text is quite a gem. The chapters do not need to be studied sequentially, as the authors wrote
so as to create each chapter as independent from the others as possible. Within chapters, the separate sections
are also somewhat independent. The pace in each chapter starts slowly and simply, and then quickens
to more advanced material. Emphasis is placed on underlying principles throughout. Problem sets are also creatively
arranged,from the simple progressing to more advanced. Highlights include a beautiful first chapter on sequences and series,
chapter two on nonlinear differential equations is a treat, and chapter six on vector field theory is crystal clear.
An appendix compares Riemann to Lebesgue Integration in a simple manner. Each Chapter in this text is a delight.
I would be remiss if I did not single out the Chapter Seven, pertaining to Partial Differential Equations: Simply put, one
of the best single-chapter introductions to be encountered. D'Alambert's formula derived, Laplace and Dirichlet problems
discussed, Solutions by Integrals Transforms and Green's Functions expounded with the utmost of clarity (All in 100 Pages).
Merely a thorough foundation of calculus is prerequisite.

I have this text (and its like new) from back in my University days. Although not a prescribed textbook it always got me out of trouble in advanced engineering maths. Its a classical text on Applied Mathematics. Along with Boas Mathematical methods in the Physical Sciences I give them both 5 stars.

I ordered a new copy of this book after losing my original from university days. I have found it occasionally invaluable in engineering for twenty years - basically "everything you ever wanted to know about math" in a relatively compact text, without being one of those huge and awful multi-author collection "handbooks". The fact that it is still in print from the 1960's bears out that I am not the only one with this opinion.

A very elegant description to lattice Boltzmann

This is essentially the first book fully dedicated to the lattice Boltzmann method (LB). The author did a great job in providing the necessary history of lattice Boltzmann, from Lattice Gas Cellular Automaton, its subsequent development, and deployments to multiphase, supersonic, microfluidics, etc flows.

The unexperienced reader will find the first chapters very useful, as they lay the grounds for the rest of the book. The "derivation" of LB is especially relevant and full of insight. Very novice readers will certainly have to read the first chapters a few times to really grasp what LB is about (just because the concepts are seemingly simple but not straight forward in reality). The author, to this aim, provides all the tools necessary for a basic understanding of the underlying process (mostly the fields of statistical physics and cellular automaton).

The experienced reader will find this book to be a good reference to LB. The latest reference to date (Aug 20008) is the book by Sukop and Thorne (Lattice Boltzmann Modeling: An Introduction for Geoscientists and Engineers) that provides more recent developments in the LB field.

The LBM methods are widely reviewed in all their relevant aspects.
The only lacking of this book is the poor description of the mathematical/physical background needed by non-specialists for a complete undertanding of the book's topics (e.g. the link between statistical mechanics and fluid dynamics).

What a book! It is so easy to read and understand. I wish this book was around when I was going for my BSME. It is a great reference book that all designers should have on their shelves.

Inventor's Smorgasbord

I am a farmer who enjoys making machinery. I design my contraptions on paper, then using a CAD program to refine the designs. Having no training in engineering I am frequently using references such as "Machinery's Handbook" and "Moving The Earth" and "Mark's Standard handbook of Mechanical Engineering" and others.

I have to say, that Parmley's book is a treasure trove of information, with heaps of unusual ideas for common compnents such as O-rings, rubber balls, pipe connections, washers and many others, plus hard information about more complex components such as gearboxes, cams, governors etc etc.

This is a big book, with many pages (numbering within each section only), lovely clear diagrams, and enough but not too many tables, formulae and specifications. It can be browsed cover to cover, (as I am doing for the 2nd or 3rd time), open a page at random and be fascinated, or look up specific topics in the excellent index.

I have read the other reviews on this book, and clearly it is a valuable rescource to professionals. I can tell you that it is also a fantastic mine of information to the interested amateur.

Wealth of information but poor quality book.

The Illustrated Sourcebook of Mechanical Components has a great amount of information that is nearly invaluble for practicing engineers. It is a staple of my library and I turn to it first when I need ideas on a new design. However, the quality of the book construction itself is extremely poor. The pages are not sewn in signatures, but are instead glue-backed single sheets as you would see in a perfect bound paperback. Unlike a paperback though, the spine is hollow, so there is no support for the text block. Intended as a reference book, the construction is more suited to a mass-market romance novel, and will not stand up to the rigors of the intended usage. Even with careful use, I've had pages fall out and the text block separate in the middle. For $130, McGraw-Hill should be ashamed. I will not be buying any reference book from them without being able to see it in person first.

A Very Selective Use of Data

I am giving this book 3 stars only because it is well researched. You can find an overall sketch of some of the important studies in trauma over the last century. However, Ley's main theses, that studies of trauma have oscillated between mimesis and anti-mimesis, and that there are no biological bases for reactions to traumatic stress, shows the weakness of approaches from the humanities. I think she totally discounts the mind body connection, and while others may find her "scathing" dismissal of Caruth and VanDerKolk's work "intriguing" I find it unnecessarily nasty and inappropriate. I don't go for scholars who try to build their reputation at the expense of others, especially since she doesn't come up with anything beyond a literature review. In fact, she says she is producing a genealogy not a history so she can bounce around among different themes. Fine, but it also becomes a poor rationalization for an overselective use of data to back up her argument. In fact, she ends up not being very sympathic to the reality of trauma, and I find her approach generally insensitive.

How does this book affect literary theory?

I read this book particularly for her response to Cathy Caruth's work on trauma. Another reveiwer of this book considers Ley's response a bit too "nasty" and "scathing." But i think that upon re-reading Caruth's text it is clear that Caruth cuts corners in her argument and rather nuancing her ideas she forces Freudian and Lacanian texts to fit her theory. For instance, Caruth mentions a story that Freud references. In this story the man kills his beloved by accident in a battle. Caruth says that he doesn't realize it and then finds out later that he killed her. Caruth uses this moment to say that trauma can not be faced directly. But that's not what happens in the story. In the actual story, the man finds out immediately that he made a mistake in killing his beloved. He even mandates her funeral arrangements and all that. Secondly, Caruth puts so much emphasis on the man that she makes it seem like HE is the victim and not the innocent woman he has just murdered. This kind of uneven analysis (where one person is viewed as traumatized and actual innocent victims are put in the background) is one of the reasons that we have so many hurt people. I think Ruth Leys points out these problems clearly in Caruth's text and I, honestly, don't know how one can make a kind response to the mistakes Caruth makes. Once you consider the ramifications that would occur upon putting her ideas into practice, I find it difficult to think of a polite response to her theories of trauma.

Trauma: A Genealogy is a survey of the history of the concept of trauma, tackling a controversial topic which examines the emergence of multiple personality disorders, combat fatigue, and other psychological conditions sparked by trauma. Her examination of the concepts and works of Freud and others reinforces her argument that the concept of trauma has been fundamentally unstable, revolving between two very different models of perception. College-level psychology students will find it intriguing.
